Day at Positive Ageing Social Club, London

One Searchers, Henry and Kyle spent a Monday afternoon interacting with the elderly at a community centre in Elephant & Castle as part of our Benefacto charity programme.  The session activities included pottery, playing cards and general coffee chit chats with people over 60 who were suffering from loneliness and isolation.  This community, at the centre, has become their ‘family’ and support network which relies heavily on volunteers to offer their time.

During the session, Henry took part in pottery; producing some truly inspiring stick figures, not without the help of others though as the pictures suggest.  Kyle meanwhile, took to playing various card games which he was terrible at – coming a distant last on the final score count.  Ultimately, the time and interaction with those present seemed to be very helpful to their mood and morale.

Sadly, this community centre is being closed in July to make way for a residential development much to the despair of those who have taken it on as their 2nd home and it is uncertain whether a new centre will be built in the area.  In the meantime, we will be visiting again to spend time with those in our community.
