Our dear friend, colleague, mentor and leader Danny Muir left us in August 2021, and we cannot find it in our hearts to remove him from the website just yet. Even when we do, we will have a page devoted to him, and we will always remember him.
Danny died doing what he loved – mountain biking in the wilds of Scotland. He died suddenly and without prolonged suffering, and for that we are grateful. He was doing brilliantly at work, pioneering One Search’s transition in recent years into one of the leading executive search firms in the infrastructure investment world.
For nearly twenty years, Danny advised investor groups, such as CPPIB, BlackRock, Allianz, Macquarie and Actis Capital in regards to organisational design, compensation and succession, and selection of senior management and board members across their global energy and infrastructure portfolios. This assessment and selection experience spanned some 400 appointments in 24 countries across Europe as well as the US, Canada, Mexico, Chile, China, India and across SE Asia and Sub Saharan Africa.
He was a Founding Chair for one of the UK’s leading social enterprises addressing homelessness and housing policy reform, Social Bite.
Prior to 2005 Danny worked at a TMT focused executive search boutique, as an Associate with a venture investment team; and KPMG as an Analyst in their business modelling team supporting M&A transactions.
Daniel was an alumni of Strathclyde Business School, Glasgow where he read Finance and Economics (1999) and has participated on effective boards, governance and HR coaching programmes with Harvard, Cambridge Judge and Edinburgh Business Schools (2012, 2014, 2017).
His outside interests included mountain biking in Scotland and Northern Europe, social impact finance, outdoor sculpture parks and environmental photography, and most things Italian, particularly wine.
Rest in Peace, Danny. You will always be in our hearts.
