Dan McCarthy

Dan founded One Search in 2006, at a time when Infrastructure was not even considered an investible asset class. He had a strong conviction that it would soon become not only investible, but highly sought after by investors around the world, and his vision was a search platform to partner with Infrastructure and Energy investment vehicles as they were built out from scratch.

Since founding the company, Dan has had a part to play in helping create and augment many of the most notable platforms in the sector, globally. This has involved complex team lifts, as well as many first-of-kind hires, shaping new investment teams to deliver nascent strategies such as Renewables in the dim and distant past, and Decarb/NextGen today. He has personally executed searches in the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Poland, Russia, Sweden, South Africa, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Canada and of course the United States of America, where Dan now lives having opened the One Search Inc office in New York City in 2018.

Dan is passionate about giving back, and has a particular interest in driving gender diversity in the Infrastructure investment community. As well as working in partnership with groups such as WIN to help mid-level women think about achieving their longer term career goals, Dan also conceived and set up our Young Women Into Finance Scholarship Program in 2018. The program works with young women (many of them underprivileged and without role models in the City/Wall St) from the age of 16 and guides them towards a career in Infrastructure investments, giving them mentorship and teaching them technical skills along the way. Dan is determined that a more balanced Infrastructure investment community will be his legacy at the end of his career.

Outside of work, Dan is a proud and very involved father to his three children, with a wife and two Newfoundland dogs (70kg Stormzy and his 75kg nephew, Bear) making up the family unit.  He continues to pursue a lifelong passion for the world’s greatest football club, Manchester United, which has taught him renewed humility in recent times.
