Having set up the firm in 2006, Dan’s very first mandate was a Head of European Infrastructure for one of the big equity investors of the day, and this was the first of a decade-long list of successes in the sector. We have since gone on to collect a range of accolades, including being the first search firm to make a placement at InfraRed after it span out from HSBC, and being the firm chosen to partner PiP’s Chief Executive Mike Weston when he made the inaugural hire of a CIO for the fund, moving Ed Wilson across from Lloyds.
We operate a truly global practice, with recent hires including the CEO of a $2bn Infrastructure Fund in Bahrain (Stephen Vineburg to ASMA Capital Partners) and a mid-level hire into AMP Capital’s Investor Relations team in New York. The sub-sectors in which we have a strong specialisation are as follows:
We work with a wide range of funds with a plethora of different strategies. Our clients include the very biggest funds targeting buyouts of huge internationally significant assets such as airports and rail franchises, right down to niche investors in university accommodation and essential social infrastructure assets at the heart of communities. Across the whole piece, we deliver our solution globally, and at all levels of seniority.
This specialism has been at the core of One Search since inception, indeed it was Dan McCarthy’s work in recruiting PFI financial modellers at the turn of the millennium which led to the foundation of the company. Even with the cooling of the PFI programme in the UK we remain active in the secondaries market, and in other geographies such as the US, Canada and Australia we continue to align ourselves with those investors and sponsors making primary projects happen.
Power & Renewables
Across the planet, Power & Renewables projects are front and centre of many of our clients’ focus, and we recruit for some of the leading brands in this space. Our coverage ranges from those firms investing billions of dollars in power stations and utilities corporations right through to small boutique investors and family offices focusing on one renewable technology or tax advantageous strategy.
We work with clients across the Oil & Gas value chain, and although this sector has faced significant challenges in recent times, we continue to work on some very high profile mandates with those firms – such as EIG – at the very cutting edge of investment in exploration and production. Outside of Oil & Gas we also have experience of partnering with funds focused on other natural resources such as Metals & Mining funds and specialist commodities houses.
